EngineEar – George Edmondson
8-Channel, 16’57”
EngineEar was created following a period of time in which I decided to record the process of restoring and rebuilding an engine under the guidance of my father, in his workshop. The piece is intended to be partly radiophonic in style; narrated at points and inclusive of field recordings and vocalisations that represent this experience from my own perspective – whilst working, learning and listening. At other moments, field recordings inclusive of tools, machines, oil, glue, sandpaper, and actions are developed further from their natural form in a nod to the meditative state I often found myself in whilst working on single objectives for hours at a time.

Live Performance 2
- Dirk Stromberg
Immersive Intensities is the continued exploration into Dirk Stromberg’s improvisational world as an instrument maker and musician. He stretches sonic worlds through agile instruments that are capable of melodic sensibilities that can be immediately counterpointed with his own sonic palettes. Dirk has always enjoyed the possible intensities in music, from Hedrix’s Machine Gun to Coltrane’s Meditations. In the year we lost Brotzman, Dirk has decided to take these intensities and find new avenues for them. To do this, he has expanded the performance to include lighting that is controlled by the instrument. The result is a performance that is a visceral experience. This concert also implements a now native ambisonic extension of the instrument allowing for musical and instrumental representation of sound in space. This concert has flashing lights and haze.
